Student designs top “green” gown

Jillian Granz working on

Countless designers work their entire lives to earn red-carpet praise. But recent MSU apparel and textile design graduate Jillian Granz already accomplished that feat, thanks to her talent for combining sustainability and style.

The 2010 Oscars’ red carpet served as a runway for Granz’s first sustainable dress when Suzy Amis Cameron, wife of Avatar producer and director James Cameron, wore it to the Academy Awards.

Granz’s journey began in fall 2009 in a classroom, where she and her classmates participated in Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet, Green Dress competition as a creative way to study sustainable design. Fast forward: Granz was chosen as the winner of Amis Cameron’s first worldwide sustainable design competition.
