Dr. Michael Wesch and the students in his 2007 Introduction to Cultural Anthropology collaborated to produce this thought-provoking short film chronicling the state of student life today. The team created a googleDocs document with 200 student collaborators to find out how students perceive their current lives and futures. This video shows the interesting and unique position today's students find themselves working in the university system of today. "18% of my teachers know my name." |

The 2006 edition of the Smithsonian's Nature's Best has some beautiful photographs of nature's majesty. It is amazing how beautiful nature, undisturbed, can be. As the medium of photography continues to progress into our greatest artform, photos like these become more detailed and more truthful than ever. "It's quite literally true that we are stardust." The iron in our blood has common origin as a 15-ton meteorite in the Rose Center. That which makes up the cosmos is what we are comprised of. The concept of interconnectivity is established beautifully in this lecture given by Neil deGrasse Tyson. Although it might be easy to feel insignificant while discovering the vastness of the universe, it is also simple to feel significant in knowing that we are all part of the universe, born from the universe as planets, stars, and all things are. Sustainability is a global issue, and yet, too often we are concerned with only the habits and practices of the superpowers. The Greenhouse Project in Johannesburg, South Africa focuses on this port city as an area where active cooperation toward sustainable living will better the community and the world. In this video you can see the ways members of this community are working towards healthy, sustainable living through agriculture, recycling initiatives, and understanding of interconnectivity. |

Robèrt's words in this short lecture are thoughtful and inspiring. This short 4-minute video is well worth a viewing. Pierre Terre uses "the forest" in his metaphor for a sustainable world. The forest produces it's own food, recycles it's waste, and sustains itself. Humans can use this model to refine our own model of life. Waste recycling is like dead leaves nourishing the soil; small businesses are like small trees, free to grow in different ways. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama presented this lecture on April 20, 2008 in Ann Arbor, MI. The Dalai Lama and others spoke at the University of Michigan on the issue of sustainability and the world.
